1 – What it means to train at Olympique de Marseille

Objective
Train players to integrate into the professional team through top-level management of their individual development.

Mission : from the detection of potential to talent management
Detection – le Recruitment – scholastic, social and sporting development. An intensive and responsive program throughout the life cycle of a player at the Youth Academy, combining aspects of the ideal and the real.
A twin sporting and economic emphasis is a fundamental part of every stage of training. The Olympique de Marseille Youth Academy aims to become a heavyweight in the talent identification and management market. These days training is a sporting, economic, competitive and strategic resource that needs to be implemented in the long term (due to the development of FIFA regulations concerning local players).

Structure and club spirit
Working in a team to embody the principles guiding a unique sporting project from pre-training through to the professional team. While the Youth Academy depends on its support network, the commercial structure underwrites a large part of its processes: direct and indirect financial aid, infrastructure, qualifications, an international network…
An equitable distribution of duties between the two structures leads to optimal functionality. The sharing of networks and their effective strategic management are two keys to success.

Staff
Graduate trainers both well-known and qualified, backed up by a physical trainer, all of whom convey the imprimata of OM embodied by Roland GRANSART. A highly competent medical staff that works in conjunction with a network of specialists.
A responsive administrative team built around Céline CASADO that allows the players to benefit from sporting, scholastic and social education in the best possible conditions.

Methods
- Sporting : to define the profile of a player who will be succeed at OM (technical and mental characteristics, coherent athletic work).
- Scholarship : an individualised course of study and ongoing supervision of each player.
- Medical support : a staff that controls the players’ athletic and psychological capacity.
- Accommodation : a family life for the players.
- Transport : drivers who take care of the players’ travel requirements.

A responsive plan that takes into account:
- the sporting calendar
- the individual’s development
- the need to acquire educational qualifications
- the recuperation and well-being of young people

Wealth
Our wealth is derived from our historical roots and diversity allied with our human qualities and professional competence, which are embodied in these key words: Passion, Ambition, Commitment and Enthusiasm.

The power to attract
Players are attracted to the Olympique de MarseilleYouth Academy by three principal factors :
- The player training scheme and the possible transition to the professional sector,
- The allure of a club with an impressive winning record and trophy cabinet,
- The global management provided (supervision in the medical, sporting, logistic, scholastic and professional development domains).
Professional and scholastic training hold a fundamental place in our ethos, and it is often these factors that make the difference when players and their parents come to a decision. We will continue to accentuate our efforts in the recruitment of young talent.

5 - Medical

Director : Doctor Joël Coste
A doctor and a physiotherapist are in attendance every day at the Youth Academy. The doctor’s role is to detect all the physical and psychological problems that a player can come across and then to refer the player to the appropriate specialist..
At the beginning of the season, the Youth Academy’s 100 players (aged 13-20) undergo a general examination. These tests are performed at the Medical Centre in Aubagne.

Numerous tests are performed :
- Dietary test to improve the player’s eating habits.
- Psychological test to evaluate the player’s stress levels.
- Trigger test to evaluate the player’s explosive power.
- Respiratory test to evaluate the player’s respiratory capacity and thus his general physical condition.
- After the respiratory test, a lactic acid test allows the player’s capacity for recuperation to be measured.
The two final tests allow the trainer and physical trainer to better target the physical capacities of players and thus tailor the work load according to the individual.

This general examination also facilitates the detection of potential anomalies that the medical personnel can keep an eye on throughout the season.

The dormitory for the youngsters at the Youth Academy, ‘La Bastide’, can accommodate up to 38 players.

- Charter of Civic-mindedness

M. Levamis is also behind an initiative that brings together the Youth Academy and two colleges (André Malraux and Simone de Beauvoir). Youth Academy students who take the English for Football course visit these colleges to share ideas with the college students on the notions of civic-mindedness and citizenship. A sporting tournament is held in order to put the values of the Charter into practice.

To vary the footballing aspect and to diversify the training program, allied activities are scheduled for the Youth Academy players :
- Forest adventure course through the treetops
- Introduction to windsurfing
- Jogging in the Calanques
