Post-match reaction from the OM coach after the defeat to Sochaux on Sunday (1-0).
Erik, OM lost despite starting the match in good form and creating a nulber of chances …
It’s true my players showed a certain amount of desire at the start of the game. We were better than Sochaux during the first half hour. Unfortunately, we conceded from one of their first dangerous chances, apart from some set pieces. Afterwards they played a counter attacking game, which suited them down to the ground. In the second half, we weren’t able to put in the same performance as in the first. We wanted to play down the wings notably with the youngster Dennoun who is pacy and can cross the ball well. But, we were all over the place and we didn’t build up our movements from the back. I’m not saying that we paniced, but we didn’t play as we should have. The pitch wasn’t great but it’s a shame as a draw would have been a fairer result.
Did you feel your side lacked a certain amount of aggressivity in the second half?
We played as planned during the first thirty minutes. Then, we conceded the goal and Siochaux were able to play with eight or nine players behind the ball and hitting us on counter attacks. They were perfectly entitled to and we were unable to come up with any solutions. It’s a shame.
Your chances often came from set pieces with Julien Rodriguez coming close, is this a good thing as far as the future is concerned …
We have been dangerous from set pieces recently and I would have liked Julien’s effort to have gone in, as he has had a long hard road to recovery. But, in a second half like that, not a lot of things went our way.
