Fernando Morientes was presented to the Press on Tuesday morning alongside Fabrice Abriel. The Spanish forward evoked his age, his ambitions with OM and the importance of the presence of Didier Deschamps.
Did the presence of Didier Deschamps at Marseille make a difference for you?
Didier Deschamps called me on Wednesday and afterwards everything was easy, even if I did have another proposition. His call was a turning point. I know him well and I know Olympique de Marseille well. Right now all I want to do is start training.
Do you have good memories of your time with Didier Deschamps?
Yes, but the most important is to get back into training with the squad and the coach. OWe’ll have to see, but I want to win titles with OM. I’m very happy today.
When do you think you will be ready?
I finished with Valencia two months ago now. We’ll see in training, but I hope I will be ready in two weeks.
What do you have to say to those people who think that at 33 you are too old?
I’m still feeling very young at 33. I can bring all of my experience on the pitch and into the dressing room.
What image do you have of Marseille after your time at Monaco?
OM are a very important club in France and Europe. They are the only French club to have won the Champions League. Even when I was at Monaco, I followed the performances of Olympique de Marseille.
