On the day after the tests carried out by the Olympians, OM's new fitness coach Antonio Pintus, goes into detail about the work put in during the training camp in Brittany.
How will you be working during this first training camp with OM?
The methodology is French. We will do what OM did last season, we aren’t inventing anything. In the morning we will work on stamina at the golf course, the basis being on running. We work out groups for the different levels. On Sunday, we carried out tests (read here) so that we could make individualize the work. Each player had a cardio test which allowed us to individualize the speed of the run. The second session is in the weights room where we focus on a number of areas. There are also exercices based on jumping. We can individualize the amount of work, the speed, the force. We also do a lot of preventative work and there we work closely with the medical staff in order to propose the best adapted exercises to each player so that we can avoid problems over the course of the season.

You have worked in Italy with Juventus and Udinese, England with Chelsea and France with Monaco and now OM. Are the working methods different?
I like the French way of working. At Chelsea or at Juventus, the work culture is different. Three sessions per day during the training camp, it is impossible in Italy or England. There, it is twice a day. I like the way of working at OM.

The pre-season preparation lasts around six weeks before the start of the L1 season. Is it enough?
Fitness coaches are never happy. We would always like to have a longer period of time to prepare the players. But, everyone works like that. To get an athlete in form you need a lot of time, but there are some players who are in form early on and others who need longer. On top of that, there is the World Cup, the players who return from South Africa will need time to recuperate. They will come back later and will need a different work schedule. It is never easy, you need to individualize the work.
