OM will be able to count on the support of 42 720 season ticket holders this season. A figure that his higher than that of last year.

OM have already taken a title before the season even kicks off, that of the champion number of season ticket holders, 42 720 in total. It is not a surprise. The loyalty of the OM supporters no longer needs proof, however the figures still can still give you vertigo, especially when you compare them to those of the principal rivals in France (20 840 in Lyon and 22 000 for Paris last season), and even some of Europe’s biggest clubs, especially the Italians.
The club will not go any further as the season ticket sales campaign is over now. This is deliberately done in order to put aside enough tickets for the occasional spectators; those who cannot come to all matches through financial or logistical reasons.
In consequence, the sale of tickets has been opened for the first three matches (Trophy RL-D, Caen and Lorient *).
Without equaling the all time record of 2002-03 (44 415), 42 720 is better than last season’s total (42 500). The number of people renewing their season tickets is up compared to preceeding seasons.
Why? The “champions” effect? Not even, if we are to believe the comments posted on our facebook page. “It’s not something you can explain, it’s inside of us!” states Stéphane. “Because OM have made me dream since I was just a kid. I have had my season ticket for 10 years now!” claims Alexandre. “For the star that we have on the jersey (…) and to relive the joy of being champions”, says an enthusiastic Natacha. "19 years with the Ultras. I’m not letting OM down now. On top of that I have an 8 month old son who I want to bring along to the Vélodrome to share the ups and downs of this mythical club!!!!” promises Franck.

16% of the season ticket holders decided to take advantage of the “abonnement +” which was brought in this season and includes a ticket for the first Trophy Robert Louis-Dreyfus at a preferential rate. They made the right decision, because on the 1st of August it is more than a friendly match which will be played at the Vélodrome. Apart from the gala opposition proposed by Valencia, the third placed team in last season’s Liga behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, the public will have a presentation of each player in the 2010/11 team. Concerts will take place at Jean-Bouin and Ganay, the evening finishing off with a huge firework display. The event, never before seen in Marseille, will take place each season, in homage to the owner who lost his life last year. For those who wish to attend the first ever of these events tickets are now on sale, with seats available in all of the stands, kop ends included, at a starting price of 15 euros.
* Tickets available on OM.net, 3229, in club shops OM (Vélodrome, St Ferreol and Vitrolles), and at usual ticket offices (Carrefour, Fnac, Auchan, Leclerc, Virgin, Géant…)
