Grandin : «A dream start»

Following his debut for OM, Elliot Grandin relishes his "dream start". "Everytime I'm given a chance, I will give my all" he says.

Elliot, when did you find out that you’d be starting against Monaco?
The coach asked me on Sunday if I felt ready to play and I straight away said yes. He told me just to go out and play that there was no pressure on me, he wanted to see what I had in me. It only sunk in that I was playing when we arrived at the ground. I had to take a real deep breath but I calmed down and I knew that if I played like I knew I could everything would pay off.
When you are given a chance like that you cannot let it slip away and I know that everytime that they give me a chance I will give my all for this club. After everything that happened it cannot have been easy for them to put their trust in me like they have.

Your debut was a success though.
I enjoyed being out there with my new teammates. Everything went well and that right from the start, the guys kept talking to me which gave me a big confidence boost. I knew I could put in a performance like that and strangely enough the pass that led to the 1st goal gave me more pleasure than the goal I scored as it made me really feel part of the team. The team played really well which made things real easy for me anyway, the goal I scored is just a little extra, it also helps build up my confidence. Now I have to prove that this was not just a one off and that I can put in these types of performance week in week out, right now I’m happy and if the coach puts his faith in me I’ll do my best to make sure he does not regret it. It was my first game but it bodes well for the future and I hope that things will continue in the same vein. It really was a dream debut, a goal and a pass that led to a goal, what more could I have asked for. Its good for my morale and should ease my integration into the squad.

Is this a bit of a revenge after all that was said following your departure from Caen?
As far as I am concerned that is all in the past, I have turned the page. I just want to concentrate on OM, I have nothing more to say on the subject.
Everything that happened just made me want to go out onto the pitch and prove to everybody what I was worth, right now after the match..well I am really happy.

How do you feel playing out on the wing?
When I was with Caen, I often played out on the right so I have no problem with that. On top of that with the technically gifted players we have here it was easy for me to fit in.

You tried a few tricks, is that a part of your game?
Most definately. You’ll see more as the season goes on, I like to try things on the pitch but not being stupid and also staying efficient.
