José Anigo : "We’ve made up the points we lost"

31/03/08 - Lorient 1-2 OM

José Anigo is satisfied with the result obtained against Lorient (1-2). He now expects a fight with Nancy for third place and he believes that it will run right up to the end of the season.

What is your analysis of the victory?
We played well during the first 15 minutes afterwards we were not very good at all. I don’t know if it was the rain but our first half was terrible, the second was brilliant though. The main thing is that we won the match as we came to take all 3 points. A draw was not interesting for anybody. We’ve put the fifth placed team five points behind us which is good. That fixe’s us in fourth placeand we’re now back to within 3 points of Nancy who lost their away game. That makes up for our non-match against Sochaux. We’ve made up the points we lost.

In the second half OM were much more offensively minded …
We had no choice. With three forwards we had to use the enitre width of the pitch. Eric Gerets put a left footed player on the right and a right footed player on the left. Kanga Akalé put in a great perfomance defensively and going forward. He scored the first goal and made some good moves. Mamadou Niang got back to his top form in the second half, much better than his first half performance. We played without Cheyrou, or Valbuena, which is something considering what they bring to the team. Winning here without them proves that there are players in the squad that can come in when others are missing. Now we have a big game against Lyon coming up, we’ll have to be on form to keep the benefit that this win has brought us.

Do you feel that thegroup realised their responsabilities on Sunday evening?
We have to keep on hoping we can get into the Champions League and we have to keep winning games. This race we have going with Nancy will go right up to the wire. Whoever is tthe most consistent will win out. We have some difficult games coming up, Nancy as well. Nothing is over yet. I don’t want to be a pain but something has to be done about the refereeing. For Lorient’s penalty, the ball had been taken before Lorik Cana’s foul. It shows the difference between a referee who can feel a game of football and one that can’t. It’s not about bad or good referees. It’s going to become a big problem, they have to be helped out with video replays. It works for rugby, we have to think about it as it will give them the opportunity to regain everyone’s respect. There is one referee for 22 players, sometimes he is far from the action and has to make an on the stop decision. It’s not easy for them but it also penalises the teams, whether it be us,Nancy or Lens yesterday. They need help.
