Djibril Cissé se confie

01/04/08 - Décrassage

Their race with Nancy, the mentality of a centre forward, Lyon, whistling fans and the National team. Invited to the programme "Décrassage" Djibril Cissé tells all, before the game against Lyon on Sunday.

THE VICTORY OVER LORIENT
We’re very happy with this win as it’s good for us and the future of the club. We had to win as Nancy had lost to Bordeaux, it allowed us to close the gap and keep the suspense going. We already knew the result of Nancy’s game, and that if we put in a good performance we could catch up. It keeps the pressure on them. If we hadn’t won I think everything would be finished.

THE PENALTY
I don’t think it was a penalty as Le Pen made the first foul. The referee decided otherwise, there’s nothing else to say.

THE REACTION
We weren’t happy at half time. We wanted to get back into the game asap and then go on to win it. That’s just what we did in the second half. We got down to work, scored the two goals and brought home all three points.
There was a lot of pressure on us as we needed those points. Going behind away to Lorient, it’s never easy to deal with and we could have lost our cool. The break did us the world of good, the coach found the necessary words to calm us down and to get us ready for the second half, he was able to turn our anger into something positive.

"I’m very hard with myself, when I’m playing football and in day to day life. It allows me to progress "

AKALE
I’m pleased for Kanga Akalé as he works really hard. I know how bad he feels when something doesn’t come off. His goal will do him the world of good. He was on form and led their defence a merry dance.

NASRI
Samir Nasri was in great form, whether when he was switching wings, his long passing, or his short passing. He was very very good.

THE COACH’S INSTRUCTIONS
I started on the bench, ready to come on and help the team. I saw what Mamadou (Niang) and Kanga (Akalé) were doing and tried to see where the Lorient defence was fragile. Before coming on, the coach asked me to try and add a bit of depth to our game and to give them hell in the middle of the park.

THE RAIN
The conditions weren’t the best, but you just have to adapt. The ball is much more difficult to control, it skids off the surface and bounces differently.

"We are confident of making the Champions League"

THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Sunday’s win gives us a bit more hope. The supporters are starting to believe more and more. We are confident that we can pull it off. On Sunday, Paris are playing Nancy. For once the OM supporters will be for PSG... (smiles)

OM-LYON
There is more pressure and passion surrounding the game against OL. We don’t prepare in the same way for these types of game. Knowing the Lyon players I doubt very much that they will let up or try and ride the match out. On top of that, when you look at the rivalry between the two clubs they most certainly won’t be coming here as tourists. If they can beat us, they will not hesitate to do it, but we are not there to be trampled on or to let them get to their seventh title easily. We’re playing for a spot in the Champions League.

SYDNEY GOVOU
He is a very dangerous player. He plays with his instinct, often one touch football. He loves the big games. We will have to be careful. Personally speaking we have a very good relationship.

"With hard work, you can achieve great things, with my mentality, I’m convinced I can make it "

HIS 17 GOALS (IN ALL COMPETITIONS)
I love scoring goals. Looking at all the chances I’ve missed, I could have had a lot more. A striker cannot be satisfied with one goal when he has missed 3 or 4 chances. A striker is always egotistical. I’m happy when we win but am disappointed if I haven’t scored. I’m very hard with myself, when I’m playing football and in day to day life. It allows me to progress.

THE COMPARISON WITH PAPIN
We are similar but he was much more efficient. He’s a model for me. I try and reproduce things he did, but it’s very difficult.

HIS MENTALITY
My time out through injury helped me a lot. It made me bulletproof and when I hear the whistles now, it doesn’t hurt me anymore. A player like Jean-Pierre Papin managed to get over things like that. With hard work, you can achieve great things, with my mentality, I’m convinced I can make it.

THE FRENCH SQUAD FOR THE EURO 2008
We’re not there just yet. For the moment I’m trying to put in the best possible performances with my club as that’s the only way to make the list. I’m thinking about it without thinking about it.
Against England, I felt good. I had a good chance after a sprint, just how I like them. I started way back but managed to make the difference. I think I did well, I’m happy.
