Didier Drogba: the book

Those OM fans who will, for tonight, be behind Chelsea and Didier Drogba will not have missed out on the launch of the first official biography of their former idol.

« Portrait of a Hero… ». An original title chosen by Didier Drogba to tell his story, sets the tone. The story of his life and a career in football that is far from typical. That of a young man from the Ivory Coast « far from home », « moved around all over the place by his uncle, trained late, for a footballer, in the Paris suburbs  », as described on the back cover.
In 240 pages, the attacker takes a long look in the rear view mirror. On his trajectory, on those who helped him, and on those who would like to take some of the credit.
And then there is OM, of course. His love affair with the club started in his childhood, in front of the television, admiring Papin and Waddle, takes up a few chapters. The last, speaking of his departure for Chelsea, was naturally not the happiest. Drogba speaks of his sadness at leaving « son » Olympique de Marseille. His depression, in England, during his first season there, despite winning the title then his fantastic ascension across the Channel.
This lenghty biography (written in collaboration with Hervé Penot, correspondant for L’Equipe in Marseille) is also about a man involved in the search for peace in his home country. An Ivory Coast dear to him, that he invites his readers to come and discover at the end of the book. With a number of words and phrases you need to know in the country. A conclusion in the image of it’s author. Irresistible.
