After the departure of Mamadou Niang, the new OM captain for the 2010-2011 season will be Steve Mandanda. A choice made by the squad as stated by Didier Deschamps this Thursday in front of the Press: “I wanted to give my players more responsibility, I wanted them to talk amongst themselves and make a choice. Afterwards, I rubberstamped their decision and I think that it is a very good choice”.
The manager then listed the reasons for the choice of the OM keeper: "He has been at the club for a while. Even if he is a goalkeeper, he has the right attitude, he is a professional respected by everyone and is a first choice player. He is happy about it and others are leaders who will help him in the management of the dressing room”.
