Second win of the week for Marseille, who delighted their public with an attacking performance. This OM side can do a lot of damage.
2-0 Grichting (63rd)
3-0 Grandin (76th)
4-0 Zenden (86th)
OM headed straight for goal on Sunday night in their game against Auxerre. Once again they scored four goals. This time, however, they didn’t concede any, thanks to a balance found within the team.
If the team still needs some fine tuning, the firepower of the team is just astonishing.
Auxerre were well grouped and didn’t play badly. But OM’s attacking ability eft them with no chance.
Mamadou Niang opened the scoring, Koné winning the ball from Grichting before playing jhim in for a diving header (1-0, 17th).
For the next ten minutes OM’s attacking line had great fun tormenting the Auxerre defence.
Auxerre only really showed themselves at the end of the first half with two good efforts that Mandanda was more than a match for. Erik Gerets’s men had given them a little too much liberty.
In the second half, Auxerre were starved of the ball, thanks to a tonic M’Bami and an in form Ziani, whether it be on the left or the right, OM strangled their opponents without ever letting go.
They reinforced their control on the game and fired in three more goals. The first goal starting off the avalanche like an explosion in the mountains. Grichting firing past his own keeper in an attempt to stop Niang from connecting to a Ben Arfa cross after some great work from Ziani. The keeper then had to get the ball from his net on two more occasions, conceding to Grandin (3-0, 76th). And then from a Zenden free kick which flew into his top corner (86th).
4-0, what a scoreline ! The Vélodrome celebrated the match well into the night.
