OM-Sedan: Final match night at the Vél’

For the last round of the L1 season, the Stade Vélodrome was packed with spectators and events. Photo report of the final match night of season 2006-07.

The match between OM and Sedan was a chance to celebrate many things. Supporter group the Yankee celebrated 20 years and the Dodger’s 15. Samir Nasri was presented with his trophy for best young player in the L1. Neuf Cegetel and Groupama will be on the OM strip next season. Zinedine Zidane was at the Stade Vélodrome representing the ELA Association, of which he is the patron.

Birthdays of the Yankee and the Dodger’s
The Dodger’s were celebrating 15 years of support and shone blue and white stars from the heights of the Depé stand.
To celebrate their 20 years, the Yankee put together a three-tiered tribute: A 2000m2 banner covered the stand, revealing when retracted the date of the founding of the Yankee spelled out in hundreds of flags. This was followed by the releasing of hundreds of balloons.
At the end of the match, a superb fireworks show was put on to celebrate the Yankee, the Dodger’s and the end of season 2006-07, which was seen out with the now-famous Champions League song “po po lo po po”!

Samir Nasri “Best young player in L1”
Last Sunday, Zinedine Zidane handed Samir Nasri the UNFP trophy for “Best young player in L1”. Nasri presented his trophy to the fans, who gave him a rapturous applause before chanting his name.



Neuf Cegetel and Groupama stick around for the ride
OM President Pape Diouf, Corinne Gensollen, Director of Operations, Frédérique Vautel from Neuf Cegetel and Yves Eveno, Director General of Groupama Alpes Méditerranée signed a partnership contract for the coming season. AS such, the logos of Neuf Cegetel and Groupama will be on the OM shirt for the 5th and 2nd times respectively. Groupama has thus become an ‘official partner’ of Olympique de Marseille.

Europe will speak Marseillais
To celebrate OM’s return to Europe’s most prestigious club competition, Adidas made a t-shirt, worn by the players during their warm-up, featuring the slogans ‘Still here’ and ‘Europe will speak Marseillais’.




ELA
The OM-Sedan match was dedicated to the ELA Association, which battles against leukodystrophy, and to which €1 per ticket sold will be donated. Zinedine Zidane, the patron of the association, accompanied Teri, who has suffered the disease for 5 years, to kick the match off. The match ball, signed by all the Marseille team, will be donated to the association.

A tribute to Charles Rocca
Since 1971, he was one of the administrators of OM’s youth academy, and he archived and knew everything about Olympique de Marseille. Charles Rocca passed away on the might of May 8 aged 73. The Stade Vélodrome paid tribute to the man by observing a minute’s silence before kickoff. The OM players wore a black armband during the match.
