On Monday Djibril Cissé signed a 5-year contract with Olympique de Marseille. Here is the reaction of President Pape Diouf on OMtv.
After an in-principle agreement was reached with Liverpool last Friday, all that was left was for the Franc striker to sign a contract. As of Monday, it is mission accomplished.
Djibril Cissé (25 years) signed a 5-year contract with OM at the Commanderie, linking him to the club until 2012.

Pape Diouf: “We never really had any doubts”
What is your reaction after having Djibril Cissé sign for 5 years on Monday?
I’m satisfied because the whole thing had become a saga. We knew from the start it would be tough. We had Djibril’s support, and he made it clear to his Liverpool directors early on that he wanted to pursue his adventure in Marseille. We wanted to keep him. I understand that Liverpool wanted to protect its financial interests. That slowed things down but we got there at the end of last week.
Did you ever have doubts about this outcome?
I had no doubts, and we weren’t impatient, which showed that we were well prepared and ready for what was to come despite the fact that it was a complicated case and that Liverpool is a huge club and didn’t want to see their player go for peanuts. Liverpool proposed conditions that needed discussion and that takes time. People were impatient but we never really had any doubts.
How were his spirits today?
This morning, Djibril was full of beans and very enthusiastic. He’s a happy lad because he just played half a season, had some bad luck and then finished the season on a high. His joy at being back with his team-mates was obvious.
