“All we needed was this win to get back on track,” explains Samir Nasri after the draw (2-2) against Nancy.
Samir, how are your spirits after the draw against Nancy?
I’m disappointed because we did the hard work by going 2-0 up with half an hour to go. We really under-performed at home. It’s always tough against teams who pack the defence. We were lacking a bit of understanding among our players up front and tonight the problem seemed to have been taken care of. Now we need to work hard to make these understandings work in a defensive capacity as well. It’s frustrating, after going 2-0 up, to let the other side back in the match. It’s even more frustrating when you think about all the chances we created. I think the international break will do the team some good.
And now, Les Bleus
Just like Gaël Givet and Djibril Cissé, Samir Nasri will be on France team duty as of Monday to prepare for the upcoming friendlies against Slovakia on Tuesday and Wednesday. “It’s always a pleasure to rejoin the France side. I’m ready to step up should the manager need me, but it’s his decision,” confided the youngster.
Personally, how did you feel you’re your comeback match?
I’m happy because I had 70 minutes of play without any pain or niggles. Which is good news because on top of my ankle injury, I had a thigh problem. My being subbed off was planned, because playing 90 minutes would have been risky. I was a bit apprehensive at the start, but things went fine. Hopefully things will keep going this well, touch wood. On the whole, it was a real relief to play again tonight. Especially because I could play with Djibril (Cissé) and Mamadou (Niang), that did me a lot of good. Also, I’m developing a good understanding with Karim (Ziani) and we linked up well.
Is doubt starting to creep into the OM camp?
I don’t think so. We spoke after the match and agreed we mustn’t let that happen. We need to stay mindful of our qualities and continue to make progress. If we do that, we’ll have a good league campaign.
All we needed was this win to get back on track, because believe me, we have an awesome potential. Sometimes you just have a bad night. Now we need to concentrate on our match against Caen, a match I really hope we win.
