Diouf: "The first match of a new era"

Just 48 hours before OM take on Liverpool, OM President Pape Diouf talks about this second UEFA Champions League clash. “It’s the first match of a new era and we want to make a good fist of it,” he said.

Pape, how will the team prepare for a match against such a prestigious opponent as Liverpool?
We’re obviously not taking it easy, but we’re certainly not overawed. It’s the first match of a new era and we want to make a good fist of it. It’s an important match for us, for the coach, and we have to remain optimistic.

Is it not too hard a first match?
It’s obviously not the best match to bounce back because Liverpool are one of Europe’s biggest clubs. In that respect, getting a positive result at Anfield would be a stunning result. And will be trying to stun a few people Wednesday.

Have the recent domestic results not dampened the players confidence too much?
We have been working with plenty of calm and endeavour. A change of coach generally brings a change in attitude, a new comportment. But every match is important and none is more important than another. Saturday’s match against Saint-Etienne is important because we need points in the league, but in the Champions League, we want to play well and enjoy ourselves. We’ll try and do the best we can.
