Bolo Zenden: “We need to free our minds”

04/11/07 - OM 0-0 Lorient

Obviously disappointed by the draw against Lorient, Bolo Zenden wants the team to make the most of the Champions League in Porto on Tuesday, something he discussed on OMtv’s Décrassage.

THE DISAPPOINTMENT AGAINST LORIENT
“Obviously we’re disappointed by the result and we understand that the fans are, too. The drive was there but that doesn’t mean we did the right things. The most important thing was to find the opening, to score the first goal… once you’ve done that, you can free yourself up. That’s what was missing against Lorient. And when you don’t score, you give your opponent hope that they can leave the Vélodrome with a result. We had some chances through Mamad’ (Niang) and Djibril and then fortunately Steve Mandanda was exceptional ion the second half. Sadly, the result was already fixed. Everyone’s disappointed because we’re here to win matches, but right now, it’s tough. We’re playing every 3 days which will hopefully give us a chance to chow what we’re made of.”

PLAYING AT LEFT BACK
“It’s not really my preferred position. I’m trying to do my best because the manager needs to rotate players. But I don’t feel at my best in that position, I prefer playing in the centre or on the left of midfield.”

DJIBRIL CISSE
“He’s a very strong man. He has a good mentality. He’s dangerous even when he doesn’t score, as he brings other players into the game. He’s criticised because he’s not scoring but that doesn’t mean he’s playing poorly. He had a good match against Metz and he scored. He always steps up when he’s needed and the most important thing is that he supports his team-mates.”

PORTO
“What we have to do is free our minds after this match against Lorient. We have a chance to progress in the Champions League. The Porto game won’t be easy; they showed what they’re capable of at the Vélodrome. They’re a huge team, really strong with some great individuals.
But we’re still top of the group, which gives us a certain confidence. Porto will have more pressure because to progress, they need to win at home.
(About his Champions League experience) If I can share my experience with the others, I do so. There are some small details that can help a player in his first Champions League matches. IN general, you have to forget the pressure. It’s an occasion to enjoy yourself and you should celebrate being able to play in such matches. I don’t see why you should be nervous or afraid. You should just make the best of it and play well.”

DECRASSAGE IS SHOWN ON SUNDAY ON OMTV AT 19:05. 21:10 AND 23:10
