Grandin : «Monaco, a good memory»

23/04/08 - Monaco-OM

Elliot Grandin had a fantastic debut for Marseille against Monaco in the Coupe de France in February. An enjoyabl page that he is turning in order to better focus on the very important trip to the Principality.

If we say Monaco to you…
(He smiles) I think of my first game with OM. It was in the cup and we won (3-1, ed.). We’ll have to do it again in the League.

It wasn’t just your first match …
Yes, I scored my first goal for OM that night and made a decisive pass for Mathieu Valbuena. Obviously it’s a good memory … But forgetting that, the League is another story. We’re on the back of a defeat at home and we must concentrate.

Monaco are on a run of four defeats and two draws at home. How do you feel about that?
Honestly, we’re not going to concentrate on Monaco, but on us and our game. We’re going to work hard together this week, sticking together without worrying about our opponents.

What or who should you worry about in this Monaco team?
We can’t just discount this team or any other. Monaco have some strong individualities … It’s up to us to play as we know we can in order to take all three points. We don’t have any choice …

Nancy will be away to Valenciennes at the same moment. How do you see round 35 in the League going?
We mustn’t let anything go. We could still turn in a poor performance, so we have to be focused. It won’t be easy against Monaco, so we have to be concentrated on this game before looking at the other games. Even if we’d like to see Nancy slip up.

You spoke about your great debut against Monaco, you haven’t played much since then, how are your first few months at OM going?
My first six months have been fine. I’ve had some playing time becuase of the injury to Karim Ziani. I really didn’t think I’d be playing so soon. But now the coach knows he can count on me. Not playing much is difficult as you really want to be out there when you are young, but you have to be patient. I’m ready if the coach needs me. Whether it’s to come on during the game or to be in the starting line-up, I’m ready.
