Akalé : «Go at it like against Lyon»

01/05/08 - OM-Bordeaux

The Ivory Coast winger feels that himself and his teammates have to put themselves into the same conditions as they did against Lyon for the reception of Bordeaux. "A tough game and a game we need to win" he says.

OM-Bordeaux, the third against the second, quite a duel...
Yes, it’s pretty much the last big game of the season. Bordeaux are coming to Marseille still with a hope of winning the title, we are trying to hold onto third place. I think it should be an interesting game, we know that we cannot mess up.  I think that we used up our last joker against Lille. Now, we have to win all our games at home and try to get positive results away from home. I think it will be a tough game and a game we need to win.

This match against the Girondins is it decisive in the race for 3rd place?

Even if we beat Bordeaux, and Nancy win, we’ll keep a one point lead. I think that, psychologically speaking, it’s better if we beat Bordeaux as we’d be able to go to Le Mans without too much pressure on our shoulders.  We know it’s not going to be easy, Bordeaux don’t lose away from home. But at the moment we are playing well and know that we can put in a great performance, like we did against Lyon. I think we have to prepare and play this game in the same way we did for the game against Lyon.

"The Champion's League is within our reach "

You talk about repeating the performance you put in against Lyon, a win against Bordeaux, could it wipe out the defeat against Lille ?
Yes, as things change really quickly in Marseille. If we mange to beat Bordeaux, the supporters will completely forget the defeat to Lille. It’s not going to be easy but we have the Champion's League is within our reach. All week the coach has being motivating us with this in mind, as the game is very important and if we prepare for it like we did against Lyon, I think we shouldn’t have too many problems.

What do you think are the strong and weak points of this Bordeaux team?
Defensively they are very strong, they don’t concede many goals and offensively they have players who have scored a lot of goals, like Chamakh and Cavenaghi, who has had a great season and scores in just about every game. We’ll have to go looking for them and give our all if we want to win this game.

OM’s ace in the hole at the Vélodrome, is the public who will be behind you more than ever! Is this support important as far as you are concerned?
Yes, when you have 60.000 supporters pushing you on, it lifts you. We’ll need the public behind us for this game, we’ll need to feel them behind us, pushing us, so that we can dig deep and give everything that we have.
