OM 1-2 BORDEAUX : REACTIONS

05/05/08 - OM 1-2 Bordeaux

Reactions from the OM camp after the defeat at home to Bordeaux (1-2).

Laurent Bonnart : «We did not manage to control the game »
"We did not adapt to the circumstances of the match. We were in front at half time, the game was ours, then, we did not manage to control the game collectively. Bordeaux took their chances well.
Their 4-4-2 diamond formation as been working well since the start of the season. In that matter we are well behind them and we didn’t manage the game well. We were in front but couldn’t keep it that way. As a team we don’t handle being put under pressure well and, unfortunately, we paid the price of that twice. There are still two games to go and we have to keep at it. We are very disappointed, put we have to pick ourselves up for the game against Le Mans, like we did at Monaco. We will have to put in a good perfomance as, having played there for a long time, I know how difficult it is to win at Le Mans. We have become very efficient away from home but cannot concretise things at the Vélodrome. It’s a shame as two months ago it was the other way around. We were much more confident and that made up for certain errors that we made. You have to know how to deal with leading against a team like Bordeaux, to manage the scoreline and know how not to lose. It’s a sector where we need to progress. We just have to keep going on for the next two games and not let the team spirit drop.
There are two games to go, it’s not over yet and we’ll have to go and win away to Le Mans. We are capable of putting in good performances, we already have, but we have to progress in our ability to manage games. We weren’t able to do that tonight."

Eric Gerets : «We forgot to play »
"We lost the game in the second half, where we just forgot to play football. I don’t know if we were nervous but there were a lot of errors in the game, in the passing … Bordeaux continued to play their game and we just couldn’t find a way back into the match. Their full backs caused us a lot of problems and I tried to counter that by keeping two forwards out on the wings and leaving one in the middle. It was a bit better but then we conceded two great goals. It’s a shame but looking at the game, Bordeaux deserve their win. It’s not for nothing that they are still in the race for the title. They play very well as a team, but we helped them in the second half. It hurts, losing the game in the last minute.
It’s going to be difficult to take 3rd place, it’s going to be much more difficult but it’s still possible. Everyone is going to do their best to win against Le Mans, it’s doable but it won’t be easy. Giving up now would be scandalous."

Charles Kaboré : «We weren’t enterprising enough »
"It was difficult in the second half and we didn’t manage to control our lead. We weren’t enterprising enough. We weren’t scared as we continued attacking, but their equaliser from a free kick really hurt us. We have to keep going and not leave it at that. We need something from the game against Le Mans."
