Auxerre-OM: Retrospective

Two days before OM's trip to Burgundy, OM.net takes a look back at the last five encounters between OM and Auxerre.

OM 4-0 Auxerre: August 17 2008
OM.net reported: Marseille, once again, went directly for goal on Sunday night against Auxerre, managing to put the ball in the net on four occasions. This time around, however, they didn’t concede thanks to a more well balanced line-up.
And if the fine tuning continues to get rid of the dross, the firepower is enough to make you giddy. But, more importantly, great pleasure.
4-0, what a score ! And the crowd at the Vélodrome were not slow to show their appreciation to finish of the party in style.

OM 2-1 Auxerre: March 1 2008
OM.net reported: OM have gotten back to winning ways, by recording a seventh successive victory at home. If the Marseille players were ruthlessly efficient at the start of the match with goals from Cana (7’) then Cissé (22’), they found it more difficult during the remainder of the match. Despite a large number of chances and a Valbuena in "show man" mode which delighted the support, Auxerre managed to reduce the score through Pedretti (89’) making it a nervy end to the match. OM’s victory added to a defeat for Le Mans, allows Gerets’s men to take back 4th place, just three points behind Nancy.

Auxerre 2-0 OM: September 22 2007
OM.net écrivait : A disappointment, when we were expecting some form of confirmation. OM did not play as they had done in their Champions League match. Just as after their victory in Caen then their draw at the Parc, the team was brought down to earth in the following match.
With a poor start to the encounter and two goals conceded in quick succession, the players found themselves in a very complicated situation. Impossible? They tried their best in the second half to show otherwise. There was a very distinct reaction, more aggressivity, shots on goal and at the end of the day a much more balanced match. But unfortunately, the score remained unchanged.

OM 3-1 Auxerre: January 24 2007
OM.net reported:In the particular atmosphere of a behind closed doors game, Marseille did not fall into any sort of trap. They forgot all about the context, and the lack of support. They focused on their match and controlled it. Apart from the cathedral like silence, the players, who deserve praise, had to put up with a violent wind against them in the second half.

Auxerre 0-3 OM: August 19 2006
OM.net reported: Marseille’s performance in their 3-0 win away to Auxerre was a veritable recital. We have to go back to January 1998 to find an OM win with this score away from home in the League (against Châteauroux). With an Auxerre side put out to hit OM on the counter attack, Marseille replied with some impressive attacking football. The win was built up just before and just after the half-time break, something which completely knocked the wind out of the Auxerre players sails. From the two decisive passes by Niang to the goals from Ribéry, Maoulida and Pagis,  the victory was won by the entire team.
OM pulled off a great result in Burgundy and move up to first place in the table before the Bordeaux-Lyon match on Sunday.
