The OM sportng director speaks of his satisfaction about the Marseille win to OMtv while still regretting the playing conditions. He also talks about the transfer window and states that there will be "reinforcements".
José, the Marseille camp must be quite satisfied this evening? There were two good things that came out of this evening’s match. The first, is that nobody got injured and the second, is that we won the match. Lyon, who are now just 4 points ahead, remain in our sights. We’re part of the pack chasing Lyon. This was a match that we could not afford to lose. Another satisfaction is the performance of Samassa which was of great quality. He’s a young player that we need to give the time he needs to flourish here. At Marseille, there is a tendendcy to burn out things that we don’t believe in straight away. We have decided on a line of conduct, we believe in the youngsters we have in the squad. Maybe it’s difficult for him and he will need some reinforcements … But we also need young players, as it is when they play alongside top players that they get better. Tonight, I’m really happy for him. Another player who showed off all of his talent during the match is Steve Mandanda. He pulled off some excellent saves at mome, nts of the game that were quite complicated for us. This keeper is incredibly talented.
The conditions were not ideal this evening, but the team still managed to play some good football …
Yes, just like the match against Besançon the pitch wasn’t in great condition and probably not fit to be played on. That doesn’t take away from what I said before the match. We played, we won, and we tried to put in the best possible performance, but the authorities will have to start asking themselves the right questions. The first person to say anything was Frédéric Antonetti, who explained that at this time of the year it is not appropriate to be playing matches, especially at 21h00. We could have played today’s game just as easily at 15h00, it would have been better for everyone, for the players, for the supporters. I don’t know what pleasure they get out of dragging people to games at 21h00 and playing on surfaces that are unfit. The a certain interests, certainly, but there is also the pleasure of the supporters who, by paying for their ticket, keep football alive. We mustn’t forget that.
What can you tell us about the transfer window and the dossiers that are open?
You can read and hear everything. We’ve been getting a lot of criticism over the last few days, because people think that we aren’t working and that nobody will be arriving at the club … We’ve taken a lot. People need to understand that just because we’re not crying things from the rooftops, it doesn’t mean that we’re not working. The recruitment team have been working very hard, but if we start talking about our contacts, we’ll end up in competition with a number of clubs. There will be reinforcements, you’ll see, and good ones at that, as that is what we want. You shouldn’t forget that Baky Koné, Mamadou Niang and Lorik Cana were missing tonight. These guys are normally the first on the team sheet, so we do miss them.
