Hilton : «We are going with the intention of qualifying»

OM's Brazilian defender rarely speaks out, but was kind enough to give us his impressions before the big game against Lyon on Wednesday and also the progression of the team's defence.

OL-OM

«We’ve had ten days off and we’re back in action with a big game. We’ve been thinking about it since Saturday, since Lyon qualified. Each match is different and this one will not be like our league game off a month ago. We’re lucky enough o have enjoyed some good results against Lyon, I hope we will be able to continue that. Lyon have a great side and we will have to remain focused so as not to make any mistakes. If we aren’t, then we will pay heavily for it. But, we haven’t lost away from home in a while. We will feel at ease and the ground will be full for this huge game.»

The duel with Benzema

«He is one of the best strikers in France. We will have to be wary of him, but not just him, there are a lot of great players at Lyon. In the L1 match we were vigilant. He tried his best to cause us problems, but we didn’t come off too badly.»

An OM defence in net progression

«The whole team has realised that when we do not have the ball, we all have to defend. Like that things are much easier for the defenders. We try and encourage each other on order to remain vigilant for the full 90 minutes. Zubar, Bonnart and Taiwo have put in some great performances recently. Mandanda has proven that we can count on him if we do make any errors. Ronald Zubar is in top form at the moment, he ha sproven that he is a great defender.»

Competition in defence

«There is healthy competition in the defensive sector. Julien Rodriguez is almost 100% fit and that is a good thing for the team. Everyone is trying to win their place in the first eleven for each match. I don’t feel that I have any more rights than anybody else as far as a starting place is concerned. The coach is playing me as he considers that I have the necessary qualities, but I still have to work and prove myself in training.»

The adaptation of his compatriot Brandao

«Whenever I can help him I do. He has come to show what he can do and he will do that little by little. He only played 20 minutes against Le Havre after a three week vacation. He is training and is starting to feel good physically. There are a number of forwards in the squad but he has the confidence of the coach. Things are difficult here as you have to prove yourself straight away, but he is 28 years old and has a certain experience.»
