Cana : «Now we are being chased»

Coming on as a substitute in the second half against Grenoble, the usual OM captain, Lorik Cana wants to offer the title to the "Marseille public". He does however want to wait a few matches to see things more clearly as far as the L1 standings go.

Were you worried after the first half against Grenoble, which was quite difficult?
We all know that a match lasts 90 minutes. It’s never reassuring to be unable to create chances or to be in difficulty. You start feeling that if the match goes on like that, it will be difficult to win against a well organised side that try to hit you on the break and score. The start of the encounter was quite complicated.

Now that you are in first place, is there any extra pressure?
I don’t think so. We’ve been saying for a long time that we wanted to qualify for the Champions League and that we wanted to be first. Things are different know as the other sides are chasing us. It will be up to us to hold onto this first place. Even if we are in front for the moment, our objectives remain the same. There are still seven matches to go, anything can happen. We’ll wait until the next 3 or 4 matches have been played to see what we will be fighting for.

What did you think of the atmosphere at the Vélodrome against Grenoble?
Unbelievable, even if we didn’t put on, much of a show for them in the first half. We all know how passionate the fans are here. All they need is a little sign from the club in order to get excited, there is great passion and not just from the OM fans in Marseille. We try and give everything we have for them as, each year, they deserve it, we do our best to try and offer them something. We will be fighting and giving everything we have in order to win the title. Even if we don’t manage it, they will know we have given our all.

It seems that goals can come from anywhere in the OM squad at the moment...
When you look at the top scorers in the L1, we don’t have any players up there. Mamadou (Niang) and Djibril (Cissé) scored a lot last year. We still have the best attack in the L1 though.
