Erik Gerets : « I'm pleased with the reaction »

The OM coach regrets the lack of tactical discipline that his players showed against Toulouse but appreciated their reaction in the second half and is happy enough with the point taken.

Erik, how would you analyse this match?
It was yet another match in which we had to show a lot of character. We knew that they would be playing behind the ball nut, in the first half, we didn’t create enough movement or combine together well enough. Offensively, we weren’t playing very well. That’s why I brought on Bolo Zenden in the second half so as to have someone who could cross the ball well even if Zubar was the ber=tter defender. We played better, but at 1-1 we were so desperate to go ahead that we played more with our hearts than our heads. We conceded another goal and then tried all that we could to equalize and even win. So, despite the fact that we didn’t always stick to our tactical discipline, I’m happy with the reaction we produced in the second half and the performance of Ben Arfa. We could have wo,n, but we could easily have lost as well. Whether you say that we lost two points or won one, the numbner of points on the board tomorrow will be the same: one.

What did you think of this Toulouse side?

We have all seen the number of goals they have conceded this season, and it doesn’t surprise me when you see the way they are organized, but everyone has the right to play the way they want to. More than anything it is a compliment for their coach as they play that way very well and on top of that they have a very dangerous guy up front. Then, unfortunately, my former goalkeeper proved me right by showing that he is one of the best keepers in France.

What do you regret from this performance?
We lacked organisation for, practically, the first time this season. We haven’t gotten where we are through luck, but through always sticking to the instructions I gave out, but there we were running around too much. We also saw for the first time, despite the fact that everyone faught well, that we were lacking something defensively on the wings. Kaboré did his best to help out, but it is difficult for guys who aren’t used to playing in these positions. But, let me be clear, I’m not blaming them.
Despite all of that, we’re still in first place and I’m hopeful that we won’t be too far from that position at the end of the season.
