The OM captain Mamadou Niang is getting ready to start his 5th season at Marseille. An experience that makes him take the surveys placing OM as favourites for the L1 title this season with a pinch of salt.
Didier Deschamps declared on Thursday « that’s it, we’re finally on the starting line ». Everyone knows that a poor start is not a good thing …
All the clubs start on Saturday and will want to have the best possible start to the season. We’re going to try and bring back a win from our first match of the season, even if we know it will not be easy.
OM’s recruitment this season was of high quality, do you agree?
I’d say that the side is well balanced. It was important to have two players for each post, in order to avoid the different problems that can come up during the season, something that cost us dearly last season.
You have obviously seen the opinion polls, in the specialist Press, which put OM as clear favourites for this season. Does that put extra pressure on you?
No, we aren’t paying any attention to it. It doesn’t mean anything, each year we start off as favourites... We have to focus on ourselves, on what we will do on the pitch and the style of play we will develop. We already have to make sure that we are competitive right from the off, we need to find our feet and our automatisms straight away on Saturday.
