Bonnart: "We were furious"

Laurent Bonnart continues his analysis of the match against Lyon. He also speaks about his understudy, Garry Bocaly, OM's position in the L1 and the home game against Paris.

The directors said that the match against Lyon was a case of « professional misconduct  ». Were you shocked?
No, it’s normal. We were 4-2 up and then conceded three goals! The three goals were gifts from our part. We did all we could to win. We were serene in the second half and everything was going our way. But afterwards we conceded three goals in ten minutes. The coach was furious, it’s normal, we were as well. These words don’t hurt, the were justified in view of the situation.

What was the squad’s reaction immediately after the match?
We accepted it. We conceded three goals in ten minutes, we could only accept it. We have to improve in order that it doesn’t happen again. At the end of the match the coach stated his feelings, they were feelings that we shared.

Is the team still under construction?
It’s difficult to sya that the team is consistent in its performances. Against Zurich, we played well. At Lyon, we had a team that promised a lot, but something was missing, it had to be otherwise we wouldn’t have conceded five goals.

Did the 6-1 against Zurich make you overconfident?
No, our forwards worked hard. The goals came quickly, from one or two touches. We need time to deal with these situations. Even if we are pushed out up front, we need to find solutions.

Do you think the changes in the centre of defence can have something to do with the three goals conceded against Lyon?
The defence doesn’t depend on the two centre backs, it depends on what is in front as well. The centre backs see everything that goes on, but if the midfield doesn’t do its job, it makes things difficult. We had problems like that last year. If the opposition is not closed down higher up the field, it is difficult for everyone in the defence. The starting line-ups need to be regular, the more changes that are made, the more difficult it is.

Has the competition for places with Garry Bocaly given you a boost?
I’ve never needed competition to boost me. I always give 100% and then the coach makes his choices. I don’t think that anyone is an automatic first choice, or a substitute. Nobody is irreplaceable, everyone needs to give their all for the team. When we aren’t playing it is not easy, but, we have to keep on working.

Is Garry Bocaly the future for OM?
I’m happy that he came back from his loan spell, as things are not easy at OM. It’s difficult to find your place in the side after a loan, it is important to have the OM spirit. He is part of the sqaud, he works hard, I hope that he will do his best, he has the qualities to impose.

What do you think of his performances against Toulouse and Zurich?
It wasn’t easy against Toulouse, as we conceded a goal very quickly. He put his all into the performance. When you don’t play very often, you need rhythm and it is not easy to have just like that. His performance against Zurich was more complete. It is good that he is taking advantage of this chance as it will give him a confidence boost.

Did the match against Lyon give you more certainties for the game against Paris?
Even if the result was not positive, we will have to be competitive. We have to win against Paris and we won’t be starting the match thinking about the two points that we should have taken at Gerland. Against Lyon, they caught and overtook us, we managed to equalise, but against Paris, we have to win. We will analyse the match and take stock after the Lyon game. In two or three days we will start to focus on Paris, but it isn’t easy, a lot of the players have gone off on international duty. We mustn’t play the match beforehand, we still have ten days to wait.

Are OM in their place in the L1 (eighth with a macth in hand)?
If we are 8th it is because we deserve to be there. We have a game in hand but it doesn’t mean that we will win it. It is up to us to climb back up the table. Things are tight at the top of the table and the road is still long. It is up to us to make it as positive as possible.
