If Chelsea make all footballers dream, Spartak Moscow and Zilina seem to be well within OM's capabilities. That is, in any case, the view of the three Olympians that we met on Thursday night after training.
On Thursday night, while the draw was taking place, Didier Deschamps’s players were in the middle of a training session at the Robert Louis-Dreyfus centre. But it did not take long for them to find out who they would face in Group F of the Champions League.
Loïc Rémy: “Two clubs we can take... and Chelsea”
“Clubs like that always make you dream. We have to prove that we are in our place with the top European clubs. With this draw we have the chance of achieving something. There are two clubs that we can take...and Chelsea. It will be complicated against Chelsea, we will have to give our all. It’s a good draw. It will be a good way for us to measure the progress we have made. In coming to Marseille, I was looking for this competition. When we saw the draw, and Chelsea, we were all happy. We’ll see at the right time what we can do, but in Marseille the players are all focused and have great desire, hoping that things will last”.
Mathieu Valbuena: “We cannot neglect any team”
“We knew we were going to get a big team. Chelsea are a reference in Europe, afterwards there is Spartak who we have already faced and a Slovakian side. We want to get out of the group stage even if it won’t be easy. This draw has given us a chance of getting through. We’ll see how easy it is if we qualify. But, if the clubs are there it is because they deserve it.
There are a lot of French players at Chelsea, they score a lot of goals and have high scoring matches. We will try and stick with them and qualify, that is the most important. We have a group within our capabilities but we cannot neglect any team”.
André Ayew: “Anything is possible”
“It is a complicated draw as we will be playing against good teams like Spartak or Chelsea and a Slovakian club. We will try and give our best in order to pass the group stage, something which is very important for us. We will be facing big clubs in the Champions League, we will have to give our all and I think that anything is possible. I’ve already played in the Champions League during my first season with Marseille. This continuity is good for me. On an international level, the Champions League is the top level. I am going to try and continue my progression and gain more playing time”.
