Deschamps: 'A series of mistakes'

Without questioning Bordeaux's victory, Olympique de Marseille coach Didier Deschamps was left ruing a series of refereeing mistakes which cost his side any chance of getting something from their trip to the Gironde...

What will you remember from this match?
We started very badly by conceding that early goal, but we still had three or four good chances at the end of the first half. In the second half, we actually got control of the game. Unfortunately, we should have come away with at least a draw because the referee should have awarded us two penalties. I spoke with Monsieur Chapron in the players' race. I told him he forgot to give us two penalties and that he had not done well, to which he replied: 'Like you!' What's more, Brandao, who should have had one of the penalties got booked which means he will now be suspended. I'm not looking for excuses, especially sicne we made mistakes for the Bordeaux goals, but since the third minute of the game against Brest, there has been a series of refereeing mistakes. It's amazing! We are not blameless, we make mistakes and don't always play well, but when you have to fight against the referee as well as the opposition, it gets very tough!

But OM fought hard and didn't throw in the towel...
Yes, but we weren't rewarded. Our start was catastrophic, conceding a goal after just 30 seconds. Given our current situation, that's far from ideal. But we kept fighting, the players want to fight for everything. We actually played quite well in patches. We deservedly scored and I think we also deserved a different result... but it's another defeat.

You had a few harsh words to say at half-time…
Yes, because statistically, Bordeaux have two really good periods in games, the first 15 minutes of each half. But don't forget that Bordeaux also had a full week at their Haillan training complex to prepare for the game while we were playing our fifth game in two weeks. It's not easy to pick the players up and get the bodies moving again. Look at Toulouse, who also played on Wednesday.

In the standings, the teams that OM could have overtaken are now getting away...
Bordeaux were already two points ahead of us... that's three more tonight. The two teams that we could have caught, Bordeaux and Evian, both won. It's a very bad evening for us, even if, given the way the game unfolded, the players showed plenty of desire and motivation and showed they can fight... But they went unrewarded for their efforts.
