Adios y gracias Azpi

OM defender Cesar Azpilicueta has officially been transferred to reigning European champions Chelsea.

Azpi's move to Chelsea is done. Following Vincent Labrune and José Anigo's trip to London on Tuesday, the negotiations between OM and the English club were finalised on  Friday and the Spaniard signed his contract.

Last weekend's win over Sochaux, was his final contribution to the Olympian cause. It was a final illustration of the man and the player: quality.

Having joined from Osasuna in June 2010, just after the Ligue 1 title triumph, the rising star of Spanish football spent the next two seasons with OM, playing 69 matches.

Cut down just as he was reaching his prime in November 2010 with a serious knee injury, he was sidelined for six months before returning and imposing himself in the starting line-up once again.

With the Trophée des Champions and Coupe de la Ligue, he played an integral role in both trophy wins of the 2011/12 campaign, as well as helping Marseille reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. A model of kindness, good humour and team spirit, he never wavered in his desire and ambition to help OM towards the top. Now he prepares for a new challenge with the 2012 Champions League winners...
