The Coupe de France, the league, his ambitions. Steve Mandanda discusses the questions arising after the cup win in Beauvais and ahead of the trip to Rennes.
How do you feel after the win over Beauvais?
Cup matches are very tough to play, especially away to a lower-ranked side. We were in good spirits and we took the match very seriously, we were very focused. We played a good match and respected the opponent.
We were surprised by their intensity they produced right from the beginning, but we set things straight and weren't trouble after that.
And now, back to the league…
We're focused on this Rennes game. I saw them play in Martigues in the Coupe de France (the Bretons won 3-0). They're still a quality side, even though they're in a slump at the moment. The psychological shock of the change of manager could work against us in this match. We have to be prepared so they don't catch us off guard. Rennes is still a tough team to move around.
What are your objectives for the second half of the season?
For the moment we have our fate in our own hands so it's up to us to get the maximum league points to try to challenge for a Champions League place next season. And we need to go as far as we can in the cups. We play every match to win, that's our primary goal. We need to bounce back ASAP in the standings so we can keep our morale up. We all need to keep pulling in the same direction."
