“We’re devastated because as a defender, we feel like we did our job. In the first half, it wasn’t easy, but we did what we had to. As opposed to against Nantes, we were up for it. We know that the present moulds the future. We continued in the second half with the same desire and we hardly saw the Lens attackers. Then Mamadou Niang scored a legitimate penalty because he was tugged back as he was about to score. Then, well, we all know what happened next because there was never a penalty. It’s become like basketball: you’re not allowed to touch each other at all. It’s infuriating.
“It’s frustrating because we battled for 90 minutes to avoid conceding a goal and then we give away a penalty that was never a penalty. We failed to kill off the match when we had the chance, which is when we had three clear-cut chances. We should have scored two goals and then we would have won.”
