Samir Nasri and Djibril Cissé, the two OM players called up by Raymond Domenech for national team duty in the upcoming matches against Lithuania and Austria, arrived at the training centre at Marcoussis on Tuesday. Usually the domain of the French ‘rugbymen’, the centre in Marcoussis plays host to the footballers due to construction work at Clairefontaine. Samir Nasri, enjoying his first call-up to Les Bleus’ squad, spoke to the press.
“I’m taking my call-up as something pretty cool, even though I’m really surprised to be here. Usually, I watch France games on the TV. That’s football, everything goes really quickly,” he said.
Against Lithuania on Saturday (Euro 2008 qualifier) or against Austria on Wednesday (friendly), Samir Nasri could well earn his first cap, but he doesn’t want to rush things.
“It’s still early days, I think, and I’m at the team’s disposal. There is a hierarchy and I have to respect my elders. But I know that the manager has said we’re not here to makeup the numbers,” he added.
The France squad trained in the rain on Tuesday afternoon.
