New Olympique de Marseille coach Elie Baup was presented to the press on Thursday in Crans Montana, and club president Vincent Labrune used the opportunity to explain the choice: "OM thought long and hard about this appointment. We received a huge number of applications for the job and thanks to sporting director José Anigo and his hard work, we had a big shortlist to work from. We met very quickly with Elie (Baup) along with the club owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus and very quickly, this became the obvious choice for the position," he revealed. "His vision for the club, his analysis of the situation and his perspectives were in total accord with what we want for the club for this season and seasons to come."
The president continued: "We wanted a French-speaking coach, with experience, who has won things and wanted to work with the internal resources at the club, because there is already plenty of quality at the club. Elie's approach won us over after a difficult season and this coming campaign will be, at worst, one of reconstruction and, at best, one of renewed successes. We are not lacking in ambition but we are realistic and we are delighted to have Elie with us."
