Baky Koné's first two goal haul for OM (19th & 49th minutes) allowed Marseille to sign another victory on Saturday in their friendly game against Ajaccio.
Altruistic against Monaco, Baky Koné showed another side of his game on Saturday night, the goal scorer. The former Nice player scored his first double for OM. Two right footed goals. One shot across goal, after a telescopic pass from Ben Arfa (19th). The second was a side footed effort, after a pass from Niang who was played in by Grandin (49th).Two moves that were kept on the ground. Eric Gerets wish of last week of a one touch passing game on the floor, was granted.
The rest of his performance was quite like the one he put in three days earlier in Cannes. He made himself continually available and tried to combine with Niang. He also had two further chances that were saved by Ajaccio’s keeper.
Mamadou Niang came up against the keeper as well. The firm hand of Debès prevented him from opening the scoring right at the start of the game.
His Marseille colleague, Rudy Riou (Steve Mandanda was on the bench) was often solicited as well. He must have scored points as well, with the performance he put in. He made some good saves and often came out well, mainly at the feet of Cheik Diabaté. He also pulled of a fantastic save from the powerful Ajaccio striker right at the end of the match.
He had no chance, however, stopping the Ajaccio’s only goal of the game. Fournier getting ahead of Kaboré to fire home a diving header at the near post after a corner (75th, 1-2).That goal did not change the outcome of the game. OM ending up the evening with smiles all around and a trophy. The « Challenge Michel Moretti » trophy, named after the former Ajaccio president who passed away last season.
