Patrice Evra will wear number 21 on his OM jersey. A choice in consultation with the coach, but not without humor. Explanations.

Shortly after 7:30 pm, Wednesday night, Patrice Evra arrived at the sports building of the Robert Louis-Dreyfus center, accompanied by the Sports Director of the OM, Andoni Zubizarreta. Welcomed by President Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the new OM left-back went to the doctor's office to begin his medical visit. He was then joined by Olympian coach Rudi Garcia. Both of them talked, among other things, about the number for "Tonton Pat" for the following months. Choice was very limited. Evra had a preference for number 3, but it´s already worn on Matheus Doria´s back. Choice was left from numbers 9, 13, 21 and 30. The first of those is traditionally reserved for strikers. The second one is not a good fit for superstitious men like Patrice, and, in France, the last of them is reserved for goal keepers. Evra would have chosen it in reference to one of his friends from "Les Bleus": «Number 30, 30 is Steve Mandanda´s number, isn´t it?? I will take it just to bother him a little.»
Number 21 was therefore the one left standing, even if it wasn´t the new Olympian´s first choice. This reluctance was quickly eclipsed by Rudi Garcia, who found the good note in an instant: "« I like the 21, in addition, 2 + 1 makes 3, so you get there.» This was a convincing argument for Patrice Evra who will don his new jersey as soon as Friday night, at the Orange Vélodrome stadium, facing Montpellier.
