40 years, 1 month and 18 days. Next Sunday, it's time to put an end to the curse of Bordeaux that hangs over the Marseille team. Since 1st October 1997 and a 1-2 success rate, OM has never managed to win against this Gironde team. However, the Olympians have come close to ending this curse several times. Flashback.

In a little over 40 years, OM has played 31 matches against Bordeaux with a record of 20 defeats and 11 draws. Marseille has had several near victories. Here are the top 5 times where the Olympians have almost brought the curse of Bordeaux to an end.

13th May 2006: Bordeaux 1-1 OM

Reduced to ten men for a few minutes after Abdoulaye Méïté's sending off, the Olympians still managed to open the score with a goal from Toifilou Maoulida a quarter of an hour before the end of the game. Outnumbered, Franck Ribéry's teammates retreated in defense to retain the advantage on the scoreboard but in 88th minute, the Marseille fall back let in a goal from Fernando to equalize…

16th December 2007: Bordeaux 2-2 OM

At this point the curse had lasted for 30 years and 2 months... Eric Geret's players were determined to change things. They attacked the match head on. Mamadou Niang scored in 21st minute. Benoît Cheyrou doubled the score only six minutes later. At half time at the Chaban-Delmas Stadium,, OM was leading 2-0. It had pretty much never been see before!
But Bordeaux wasn't shocked however and were quick to react. Marouane Chamakh reduced the score in 33rd minute, giving hope to the Gironde team being able to equalize in the second half with a goal from Jussié.

13th September 2008: Bordeaux 1-1 OM

Never before had OM scored so quickly at the Bordeaux ground. Helping out Mamadou Niang, Bakary Koné fouled Ulrich Ramé less than two minutes into the game. The perfect beginning to finally end this run with no victory on the Gironde pitch. But the Olympians would, again, settle for a draw with a goal from Marouane Chamakh in 25th minute.

29th August 2010: Bordeaux 1-1 OM

Crowned champions of France in May 2010, the Olympians led by Didier Deschamps arrived in Bordeaux for the fourth day of Ligue 1 2010-2011 with only three points, (losing against Caen and Valenciennes and a win against Lorient at home). It was really time to redress the balance for the start of the season.
Marseille was ready to do battle. Lucho Gonzalez didn't hang around scoring the opening goal. OM was leading from 12th minute until Edouard Cissé was given a red card and the team was reduced to 10 men in 34th minute. The mission was then to hold them off for an hour to stay on three points and put an end to an almost 33 year old curse.
The end of the match was approaching, the Olympian defense weakened but did not break ... until a goal from Anthony Modeste in 88th minute.

10th May 2014: Bordeaux 1-1 OM

At the end of the 2014 season, after six games without losing, (three wins and three draws) OM was fighting Lyon for 5th place. On this second opportunity, José Anigo's men scored the first goal. Benoît Cheyrou took a header from mid-fielder, Brice Djadjédjé just after the half-hour mark.
In the second half, Bordeaux finally started attacking back making more opportunities and ending up equalizing in the 66th minute with a header from Cheick Diabaté from mid-fielder, Diego Rolan. Despite several more attempts, including one from Florian Thauvin, no more goals would be scored ...
