May 26, 1993, is now cemented into the rich history of football. It will also remain in everyone's memories. In 10, 20 or 50 years, we will still remember this match and this success, in the same way that we remember one's marriage or the birth of one's first child.

The more than 20,000 supporters at the Olympic Stadium in Munich will also remember the night for a long time. The day was beautiful and warm in Bavaria, the evening too. Yet the benevolent conditions did not win the match for OM in advance.

Far from it.

Facing the great AC Milan, Raymond Goethals' players fought to raise the cup. In an unprecedented formation, especially with an emphasis on attack, Les Olympiens we on their back foot through the first 30 minutes, despite a balanced start.

Barthez was in for a very big night in goal He denied two shots by Van Basten's full-strength Milan. OM bent but did not break under the pressure from the Red and Black waves.

With the urges of Raymond Goethals, OM attempts to push forward. It is line against line, the OM group bounces off each attempt. As halftime approaches, Marseille win a corner.

Pelé takes his time to line his delivery up, allowing his defenders, like Boli and Desailly, to take position in the box. The corner comes in what appears to be slow motion, Völler jumps to the first post but he is too short.  Not Boli, who followed and nods the ball, despite the burden of Rijkaard and Baresi - who are holding his jersey. The redirection is powerful, the trajectory of the ball leaves no chance for Rossi, the Italian goalkeeper.

OM have just scored what will be the most important goal in their history just before the break. The scenario seems ideal. ... But it will hold through the second half?

The second half resumes at the same break-neck pace.

Milan dominates but Barthez is imperial. He knocks away every shot and physically imposes himself against the giants of Milan.

Quickly after the restart, Papin comes in. Marseille's faces are suddenly more serious, seeing their former team-mate on the pitch. A few minutes later, Angloma takes a knock and must go out. He is replaced by Durand.

Milan is playing their game and getting opportunities - but Massaro, Van Basten, Rijkaard and Papin all fail to penetrate the Olympien defense. There are only a few minutes left, the Olympien supporters are singing but the anxiety of the last moments rise.

Finally, the referee takes a last look at his watch. One, two and three whistles ... that's it.

OM finally claims its European Cup. Supporters exult, players and staff run to congratulate each other. This time, tears of joy are pouring over Marseille's faces. It's been 38 years that France has waited for this ...

While Didier Deschamps, Les Olympiens captain prepares to raise the most prestigious European trophy, "Jump" and then "We are the champions" reverberate through the night in Munich. In Marseille, the concert of horns can begin on the Old Port.

The night will be long and we will remember it for a long time!
