Olympique de Marseille suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Montpellier on a difficult Sunday evening at Stade de la Mosson.

OM, coming off the back of a defeat to PSG, despite an albeit decent performance, were seeking to return to winning ways against a Montpellier side who concede few goals, but are themselves in the hunt for a podium place.

And the first half was a typically turgid affair with the hosts keeping tight at the back. It could’ve been breached by Dimitri Payet, who skied a brilliant pass from Morgan Sanson.

OM did see a lot of the ball, but not a lot of success in that first half, but from then on it was all Montpellier.

Gaetan Laborde fired in the hosts soon after the break, before the striker capitalised on a loose chance to grab a 2nd ten minutes later.

Lasne tripled the hosts’ advantage, with OM unable to offer a response en route to a 3-0 defeat.

OM remain 6th in Ligue 1, and face Dijon next weekend at home. Before then however, a decisive Europa League tie in Rome awaits against Lazio.
