Olympique de Marseille suffered a sizeable 4-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League group stage on Thursday evening.

Having already been out of contention for qualification for the next round, it was on the visitors to make use of an experimental side to get some important game time, with many first teamers out.

But the night quickly went sour when Luka Jovic, who scored the winner at the Orange Velodrome in the match between the two sides in September, struck inside 58 seconds from close range.

A defensive mix-up saw Luiz Gustavo put through his own net to gift Frankfurt a 2-0 lead, with Nemanja Radonjic and Valere Germain seeing efforts saved by Kevin Trapp at the other end.

As the atmosphere grew at the Commerzbank Arena, so did the hosts’ attacking fervour. It was the turn of Bouna Sarr to put through his own net in an attempt to clear the ball, before Jovic made it 4-0 as he beat his marker to lift the ball past Yohann Pele.

OM remain rooted to the bottom of the group and we return to domestic matters on Sunday against Stade de Reims in Ligue 1.
