Olympique de Marseille were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against Stade de Reims at the Orange Velodrome on Sunday afternoon.

After consecutive league wins, the podium was in sight with another success for Rudi Garcia’s men, but they were to be wary of the league’s third best defence in Reims.

But OM raced out of the blocks in the early stages, with Luiz Gustavo and Lucas Ocampos seeing shots saved by Edouard Mendy, the latter only being unlucky in not forcing a follow-up over the line.

Reims had one chance that was easily saved by Mandanda in the first half that was in truth, all OM who had the ball more than two-thirds of the time, but were not rewarded for their dominance.

The second half was a more cagey affair, with both sides opting for a measured approach. Payet saw a wonderful free-kick denied by Mendy, while Adil Rami saw a chance go wide. At the other end, Reims also got close through Doumbia, with Mandanda forced to save on his line.

The point shared sees OM rise to 5th in the table ahead of a trip to Stade de la Beaujoire to face FC Nantes on Wednesday evening.
