Olympique de Marseille suffered a 3-2 reverse at the hands of FC Nantes on a night of frustration in a highly competitive game at Stade de la Beaujoire.

OM drew blank at the weekend and here in the west, the visitors were seeking to score for the first time in three games to recover from a blank period.

And despite the hosts seeing most of the ball in a one-sided opening, it was OM who opened the scoring. A great attacking phase on the wings saw the ball played back to Morgan Sanson who beat the goalkeeper with a powerful strike down the middle.

The lead lasted just minutes however, as Emiliano Sala struck for the Canaries. The tide turned once more as Nicolas Pallois was judged to have handled the ball, resulting in an OM penalty.

Up stepped Florian Thauvin who tucked away his 11th league goal of the season with aplomb. The pendulum swung back on the stroke of half-time as Sala’s hold-up play fed Toure who curled the ball past Mandanda.

OM pushed for a third in the second half, with Dupe almost seeing Pallois struck past him, as well as a post for Luiz Gustavo, but it was Gabriel Boschilia who put the hosts ahead for the first time on the night.

Try as they might, OM could not force through an equaliser as the three points stayed at the Beaujoire.

OM travel to Saint-Etienne on Sunday evening as part of the 17th round of fixtures.
