Olympique de Marseille won for the fourth time in 5 games with a 2-0 success against Saint-Etienne on Sunday night at the Orange Velodrome.

OM, who have a highly positive recent record against the Greens needed a win here to leapfrog the visitors in the table and remain in the race for the Champions League.

And Rudi Garcia’s men started brightly, peppering the visitors’ goal with shots in the early stages. Indeed, it only took 12 minutes for the scoring to start in spectacular fashion.

Mario Balotelli performed a stunning scissor kick off a corner to put the side 1-0 ahead before embarking on a fantastic goal celebration involving the team and his phone,

Lucas Ocampos was felled in the box shortly after, with Florian Thauvin making it 2-0 from the spot. Both players then spurned stunning opportunities to further increase OM’s lead.

The second half proved largely an academic affair with Morgan Sanson and Maxime Lopez coming closest, but OM will be satisfied with a professional performance against a direct rival.

Rudi Garcia’s side host OGC Nice next weekend.
