Bordeaux 2-0 OM | Garcia's men fall to defeat
Olympique de Marseille suffered a 2-0 defeat to Girondins Bordeaux on Friday evening at the start of the 31st round of matches in Ligue 1.
OM do not have a positive recent record at Stade Matmut Atlantique, but Rudi Garcia’s men were keen to overcome the frustration that followed last week’s 2-2 draw against Angers.
And neither side started the game in strong fashion with the first 20 minutes passing relatively quietly. Steve Mandanda was called into action with a fine save to deny Nicolas de Preville as the hosts began to move to a firmer footing.
And it was Bordeaux who struck first blood. The hosts were awarded a penalty after a handball, with Francois Kamano sending Mandanda the wrong way for 1-0.
OM started strongly in the second period with Nemanja Radonjic spurning three good chances within minutes.
The Serbia international first saw a header just over Costil’s bar, before an ambitious scissor kick and a well-worked corner routine were also rebuffed by Paulo Sousa’s side.
And the match-breaking second goal came when de Preville struck 20 minutes from the end after a period of OM domination to seal the points for Bordeaux.
OM remain 5th in Ligue 1.
