OM came from two goals down to snatch a point after a poor first half

Olympique de Marseille snatched a 2-2 draw at home against Stade Rennais having come from two goals down to split a point on Sunday.

After last week’s disastrous setback to Nimes, OM needed to hit back on form at home to set themselves straight after a challenging week.

But things did not go to plan after a porous first half in which nothing of note really occurred before Adil Rami felled Ismaila Sarr in the box as the referee awarded Rennes a penalty.

Up stepped Benjamin Bourigeaud, who scored against OM last year to put the visitors ahead. It was 2-0 for Sabri Lamouchi’s men soon after as an innocuous cross was spilled by Yohann Pele, only to be swept up by I. Sarr.

OM needed a big second half to rectify those gifts and it proved somewhat successful. After 54 minutes, Lucas Ocampos halved the deficit with a neat finish past Tomas Koubek.

And soon after, OM were level. Substitute Kostas Mitroglou had a goal ruled off for offside, but his presence forced Remy Bensebaini to head into his own net.

OM searched for a winner, but it did not come. A point it is ahead of next week’s big clash against AS Monaco at Stade Louis II.
